Google iPhone Application – Yay!
I do have to admit, this application is pretty pointless.
It’s not exactly difficult to go into Safari, add Google as a bookmark and then just use that. But for those even lazier people (Like me), Google made a nice Google iPhone Application, which is simply called Google.
So what does this actually do?
It’s a simple Google search thing by nature, but another cool feature of it is the voice search, where you can speak into the iPhone and it will search for it on Google. Since you have to wait for it to work out what you said, it probably would be quicker just to type it yourself.
There is also another section in the Google app, called “Apps”. This basically gives you a list of all of the Google services, with links to each. You can simply click the title and it will redirect you to the webpage in Safari, which again, does seem pretty pointless.
If you need to open up quite a lot of Google services (Or if you’re just curious about what sites Google runs) then it can be quite helpful. What does seem quite odd is that you cannot enter your Google account details directly into the plugin, which doesn’t really make much sense at all in my opinion.
It’s a nice little thought for iPhone owners, although it’s a perfect example of a pointless application.

Try out the ‘local results’. This shows where Google wants to move with time. You also might want to dig for an almost 1yr old interview with Marissa Mayer where she mentioned RFID implants with immediate personalised and geo-targeted results.
This app is a toy for Google and they obviously monitor how it is used. Also Google Voice Search is depending on your accent rather positive. Again a great experiment they are running.

Definitely like the idea of speaking and it searching automatically. But I just think we’re getting lazier and lazier. What’s wrong with buttons and typing?

good idea, but not for me. Don’t think I’d ever use it to be honest.

well thisi is useful in some ways. I beleive google developed this for people who drive and use there phone. This would be great for those situations. Also its great for situations where your hands are busy such as excercising or working. There are some good with this application. But the iPhone is so easy to navigate with I dont see the greatest point of using this.

I can tell you something I generally don’t like… Single apps wrapped around a single book or comic that clutters up iPhone and iPod touch screens. Titan Magazines released four Wallace and Gromit comic books apps for 99 cents each. Well, actually, one of the four is free right now.
