How to get Indexed Quickly

One question that I see being asked over and over again is “Why won’t my website get indexed?”. Some users make websites and, say, two weeks later, they’re still waiting for their website to be indexed by the main search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing. I thought I’d make this post just to clear things up and show some very basic methods of getting your website indexed quickly. We highly recommend that you use cheap web hosting to manage your websites when you’re trying to get your websites indexed.

The first step is to generate a sitemap for your website. Most webmasters already know about this, but to do so, you should use a sitemap generator website, such as xml-sitemaps.com. Once an XML sitemap has been generated, you simply upload this file to your web hosting account in the public_html folder (Most of the time). Then you need to let Google know about it. For this, you have to add your website into Google Webmaster Tools and then verify it. This is a really easy step to do which I’m sure doesn’t need explaining. Once you’ve submitted your sitemap, you can leave Google to do the rest.

The next step is to submit your website to Digg.com. Digg gets crawled really, really quickly so by submitting to it, you should find that your website also gets found really quickly. It’s very simple to do – Create a Digg account and then submit your website’s homepage through it. Within several hours, Google should find you. For now, let’s move onto even more steps which will help you get indexed quickly.

Another way you can get indexed is by simply visiting certain websites. When you visit the websites, a page will be generated which Google will crawl and index. This does help. Here is a list you can use:

http://www.quantcast.com/[URL]

http://www.zimbio.com/search?q=[URL]&btnG=Search

http://whois.ws/whois-info/ip-address/[URL]/

http://whoisx.co.uk/[URL]

Simply replace [URL] with your website’s domain name and then visit each link. This can take a bit of time but is certainly worth doing, it’ll make the time it takes to get indexed much shorter – Selecting top web hosting could also be a good idea to make sure your websites stay online throughout the whole process, so Google is able to access them and then index the content on your pages.

The final step of getting indexed quickly is to make a few comments on DoFollow, High-PageRank blog posts. You could do this on my blog, for example. These links will not only help you get indexed quicker, but will also benefit you even more in future because it should improve your rankings too. Make sure your comments are relevant though, spamming blogs will get you nowhere when you’re doing this.

In conclusion, if you want to get indexed, the tips in this blog post will definitely help you to achieve it very quickly.

  • Amount of Comments

    Hi Guys,

I just thought I’d make a post saying I thank you all for commenting on the blog. Most of the comments I get on my blog seem to be comments regarding my plugins – Whether it’s regarding a bug or a feature request.

I seem to be getting quite a large amount of these comments lately so it’s quite difficult to keep up by responding to everyone. I am still going to try and respond to all of the comments, but it may take a while to get through them. All comments that have been submitted will be looked at, I’m starting to get through them now.

Over the next few days to the next week, I will be re-reading all feature request comments made on my blog and will be trying to implement as many of them as possible into my plugins and release a new major version of as many of my plugins as possible. If you have a new feature idea, it’s probably best if you make the request quite soon.

Regarding the feedback form in my plugins, again, thank you for using it. I have read all of them, but unfortunately I haven’t been able to respond to quite a lot of them. This is because of the scale I’m actually receiving them (Over 20 messages a day most of the time) which can make it pretty difficult. It would make things much easier if the feedback form was used properly though because I do receive a significant amount of junk messages (For example, advertising a service or messages that aren’t even in English). I’m not sure how clear I need to make it that I can’t understand feedback messages sent to me in non-English language. These will unfortunately have to be ignored since I don’t know what it actually says.

Thank you for visiting my website, I’ll do my best to fix all of the bugs mentioned and add as many new features to my plugins as possible.

  • Google Nexus One UK Launch

After being released in the United States for quite a while now, Google have announced the launching of their Google Nexus One phone to be in April, for the United Kingdom. It will not be on sale in the average retail shops however – It’s only on sale online through the Google website, which you can find at Google.com/phone.

No tariff has been announced, nor the idea of a pay-as-you-go model, but the Nexus One will start off on the network Vodafone in the United Kingdom, possibly moving out to other networks in the future. It is expected that the pricing of the Nexus One will be pretty similar to the pricing of the iPhone to try and compete.

Vodafone apparently wanted a UK launch in March, but now both parties have settled for the release in April to give enough time for everything to be prepared and ready for release.

It was a very interesting idea to make the phone only purchasable online. It means that they’re probably limiting their sales to start with as most users tend to prefer to buy mobile phones in shops instead of online. It also means they’re heavily relying on word of mouth to promote their Nexus One phone. They may find it quite difficult to compete with Apple’s iPhone, considering the huge marketing campaign completed by Apple. It’s going to be interesting to see how Google are going to market this phone in the United Kingdom – Are they going to start doing the TV advertisements like Apple do, or are they just going to hope that their phone advertises itself virally?

Personally, I will look at the Google Nexus One and consider buying it. However, I’m currently very content with my iPhone, and many users like myself may find it quite difficult to make the switch from the familiar iPhone over to a new phone like the Nexus One.

  • Internet Marketing is essentially the same as any other type of marketing, and a good understanding of the basic principles is needed in order for an internet marketing campaign to be a success.

Whatever you are trying to market will always have a target group. The target group refers to the people who are most likely to buy your products. These are the people your advertising will need to appeal to, and in order to achieve that, you need to understand them.

Effective market research should give you a clear picture of the people in your target group, and you will discover their likes and dislikes and, when it comes to the internet, what websites they are likely to be looking at. If you are trying to promote computer games and consoles then advertising on walking frame websites will not work. These people may well spend a lot of time in doors due to a disability, but they probably won’t spend their money on your product.

A good way to decide where to advertise on the internet is by looking for informative sites about the product you are selling that allow user interaction. Specialized online forums, and to some extent blogs with comment sections, will get a lot of traffic from search engines from people who need help with a similar product or want to discuss it with other users.

Sites that publish news articles relating to new products including online magazines or e-zines will also appeal to your target groups and will prove to be more cost effective for your advertisements. These ads could be in the form of solo ads, classified ads and top-line advertising. Classified ads might be the cheapest, but they also are the least seen of the three.

Many people are making use of search engines in order to advertise their websites. Search engine optimization can be effective in getting more traffic to your website by tweaking and promoting your site so you get shown high up in search results. This is a great idea and can be really effective, but can also take a long time and involve lots of hard work on your end, or a lot of expense if you pay someone else to do it.

When it comes to SEO, it’s a good idea to understand the basics and ensure your site is set up to be found by the search engines in the first place, and then provide your visitors with an enjoyable experience and a reason to stay. Good content is the most effective form of SEO there is and again, knowing your target audience is essential.

  • Best iPhone Apps

In this post, I thought I’d just talk about some of the iPhone apps I currently have on my iPhone, and why you should use them too.

The most-used app I have is probably TVGuide. This is a great little app. I can’t quite remember if it’s free or not (It’s been a long time since I first put it onto my iPhone). As the name of it says, it basically gives you the latest TV guide for many different channels – You can even select the channels that you want to see a TV guide for. When you start the app, you have to wait for the data to be downloaded to the iPhone (Which basically depends on if you’re using WiFi or 3G, normally doesn’t take long). If you watch TV often, then this could be a great application for you, which is well-worth using.

Another great app to use is Palringo. This is an iPhone instant messenger client – Which supports many different services, including MSN and Yahoo Messenger. It’s completely free and works perfectly. You stay logged in when you close the application too (You sign out once you use the sign out feature in the app) which enables your contacts to message you even when you aren’t using the app. This is a great way to contact people on the move, for free. It would be great if they added the feature to change your display picture though, which is probably the only downside of this.

The third app to use is Sky News. If you’re interested in staying up to date with the news, this is a great and quick way to find out what’s happening. The application runs quick and is very simple to use – Simply select the headline that interests you and immediately the full story is displayed. Unlike quite a lot of apps, it runs very quick even when you’re using 3G networking, which means that you’ll be able to check the news anywhere with great speed. I use this often.

The final application to use is Twitterific. Although I don’t use Twitter that much, I still have this app and use it when I want to check Twitter. It’s quick and is full of great features, allowing to browse your friends’ tweets as well as make your own tweets directly from your iPhone. It’s also very easy to check your direct messages. There are many different Twitter clients for the iPhone but, in my opinion, Twitterific is probably the best one to use.

In conclusion, these are the four main iPhone applications that I use. I do have other apps on my iPhone, so I might make another post about applications sometime in the future.

  • Google Buzz and Google Broadband

Recently, Internet giants Google have announced two new services – Google Buzz and Google Broadband. Let’s look at both of them.

    Google Buzz
This new idea is Google’s solution to social sharing – Built into Google Mail. You may think that this is quite similiar to Google’s other product, Google Wave. In fact, you’d be right. Buzz, however, aims to enable users to share photos, videos, links and status updates with other people, quite like Twitter does.

Google Buzz is actually live right now so if you log into Google Mail, you should see a new link in the sidebar called Buzz. Once clicked, you’ll notice a Twitter-like layout. It actually works in the same sort of way – You enter a short message into the box and it submits it to all of your friends. You can see all of your friends’ messages below it.

Some people would see it as a half-way point between normal e-mail and Google Wave. It’s a different way of communicating online in a unique way, which links e-mail, Twitter and Wave all together into one nice package. Although I personally won’t use this new feature, it’s great that Google are continuing to expand on their free services offered to users on the internet.

    Google Broadband
Just to note to start with, Google Broadband is not the official name of this project, I believe. Google have announced that they will be providing internet broadband to over 500,000 communities in the United States. This won’t just be any normal broadband – It’s ultra-quick. The speed claimed by Google is to be 1gbps, which is a huge improvement in speed. For example in the United Kingdom, the highest speed available at the moment is 50mbps, which means Google’s broadband would be 20x quicker!

The main reason Google has given for this new idea is to get more people using the internet. In turn, this would also increase Google’s profits because they would get more users purchasing advertising from their Search Network. Of course, this is one service that Google cannot provide completely free, so they have said that they will provide very competitive prices on their broadband. They have also said that they will have open access on their network, so that users will have a choice of different service providers.

This new service is to be tested in the United States near the end of the year. Later on in the year, Google will decide the chosen sites which will be allowed to test the new service and then hopefully they’ll release it officially next year, maybe even reaching to different countries. There has been no official word on their public release date and reaching internationally, though.

  • The New iTablet to rival Apple's iPad

Most users were expecting Apple to call their new tablet PC the iTablet. They chose not to, and now the British company X2 Computing has decided to pick up on that and make a rival product – The iTablet.

In terms of specifications, the iTablet does seem more powerful than Apple’s iPad. Due for an April release, the iTablet is going to run on Windows 7 and even has a 1.3 megapixel camera built in to enable video chatting. Another advantage over the iPad.

One of the biggest problems with the iPad is the lack of Adobe Flash support, which can be difficult if you’re trying to view websites with flash content on. Luckily, X2 Computing have managed to bring flash support into their iTablet, which is a great feature to have. Just think, you could be travelling and playing on online games websites at the same time!

The screen size of the iTablet ranges between 10.2 inches and 12.1 inches, bigger than the iPad, and claims to have multitouch, Wi-Fi, bluetooth as well as optional 3G networking. You even get a huge hard drive too – Ranging up to 250GB of space, compared to the much-smaller 64GB offered by Apple’s iPad.

Another interesting feature is that you can run programs simultaneously. With the iPad, you can only run one task at a time because of the operating system used (Which is also on the iPhone). This can make it quite difficult if you want to, for example, read your e-mails and browse the internet.

In conclusion, X2 Computing have certainly done a great deal of work to rival Apple. They’ve managed to fix every weakness that was identified with the iPad and made it much better. Everything about the specifications are much better and quicker, and running on a decent operating system like Windows 7 too, what could go wrong?
