Just thought I’d make some new updates about my blog, JakeRuston.co.uk.

First of all, the site has had a new design. Personally, I thought the old one looked a bit old and therefore managed to find another WordPress theme. I’m hoping that you like this theme more than the other one, I certainly do.

Also, keeping up with the comments is getting very challenging. A lot of comments are still in the comment queue unanswered so I apologise for that. However, I seem to be getting an awful lot of comments basically saying the same thing – “This plugin doesn’t work because it gives an error regarding curl_init()”. I will be releasing an update to stop this unhelpful error, but still, THE PLUGIN WILL NOT WORK FOR YOU. This is because this error only shows up if you don’t have cURL enabled when this plugin relies on cURL. If you wish to stop this problem, simply contact your host to enable it. 99% of people saying this in the comments are using XAMPP to test their site on their local computer. From what I can see, XAMPP does not enable cURL by default and that’s why people are experiencing problems.

I hope this will help some people, as well as stop me having to respond to the same types of comments over and over again.

Yesterday, Apple announced their latest addition to the iPhone family – The iPhone 4. They’ve changed the whole design of it and added a great range of new features to the device. Let’s take a look at some of them.

Perhaps the most obvious change from the iPhone 3GS is the whole outer design. Instead of the curved back, it’s now a very flat surface covered by a layer glass, similar to the front. The buttons on the side have also been changed. A front-facing camera has been added and on the back of it, the original camera has been increased to 5 megapixels as well as adding an LED flash. Overall, the iPhone 4 is 24% thinner than the iPhone 3GS which is quite nice, especially when they’ve also managed to increase the battery life of it.

The best new feature, in my opinion, for the iPhone 4 is what is called “FaceTime”. This allows you to enter a video call with any other iPhone 4 user by simply making a phone call. At the moment, the data is sent over WiFi so users must be connected to WiFi, but Apple did say in the keynote that in 2011 the iPhone 4 should be able to support more options which is great news. If this works as advertised, this could work very well in Apple’s favour.

Another great feature about the iPhone 4 is that you can now record video in 720p HD quality! The quality is much, much better than what it was from the 3GS. Another addition, though, is the launch of a new app from Apple – called iMovie for iPhone. It’s a good idea in practice. It’s quite basic but it does the job and it is quite helpful in some cases, but the functionality and variety is somewhat limited, as you would expect when editing video on a phone.

The final key feature of the iPhone 4 we’ll look at is the new retina display. Basically, this is Apple’s way of saying that they’re increasing the resolution of the iPhone by 4 without making the screen any bigger. The benefit of doing this is that images and text are much clearer with this new display, which means that when you’re looking at images or video, you should expect to see it in a higher quality than on the original iPhone displays.

In conclusion, Apple have made a large variety of changes to their iPhone – Only a few of them are major changes, though. If you’re currently using an iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS, you may want to consider upgrading to the new iPhone 4 – There are some pretty neat changes in this release. If you currently aren’t the owner of an iPhone yet, now is definitely the time to invest in one.
