Yesterday, Apple announced their latest addition to the iPhone family – The iPhone 4. They’ve changed the whole design of it and added a great range of new features to the device. Let’s take a look at some of them.
Perhaps the most obvious change from the iPhone 3GS is the whole outer design. Instead of the curved back, it’s now a very flat surface covered by a layer glass, similar to the front. The buttons on the side have also been changed. A front-facing camera has been added and on the back of it, the original camera has been increased to 5 megapixels as well as adding an LED flash. Overall, the iPhone 4 is 24% thinner than the iPhone 3GS which is quite nice, especially when they’ve also managed to increase the battery life of it.
The best new feature, in my opinion, for the iPhone 4 is what is called “FaceTime”. This allows you to enter a video call with any other iPhone 4 user by simply making a phone call. At the moment, the data is sent over WiFi so users must be connected to WiFi, but Apple did say in the keynote that in 2011 the iPhone 4 should be able to support more options which is great news. If this works as advertised, this could work very well in Apple’s favour.
Another great feature about the iPhone 4 is that you can now record video in 720p HD quality! The quality is much, much better than what it was from the 3GS. Another addition, though, is the launch of a new app from Apple – called iMovie for iPhone. It’s a good idea in practice. It’s quite basic but it does the job and it is quite helpful in some cases, but the functionality and variety is somewhat limited, as you would expect when editing video on a phone.
The final key feature of the iPhone 4 we’ll look at is the new retina display. Basically, this is Apple’s way of saying that they’re increasing the resolution of the iPhone by 4 without making the screen any bigger. The benefit of doing this is that images and text are much clearer with this new display, which means that when you’re looking at images or video, you should expect to see it in a higher quality than on the original iPhone displays.
In conclusion, Apple have made a large variety of changes to their iPhone – Only a few of them are major changes, though. If you’re currently using an iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS, you may want to consider upgrading to the new iPhone 4 – There are some pretty neat changes in this release. If you currently aren’t the owner of an iPhone yet, now is definitely the time to invest in one.

I’m really excited for this thing to hit the market! 720p is awesome and video conferencing will be great but i’m curious to find out how exactly it will work.
Regarding the ‘Retina Display’ the new iPhone will have a 960×640 which is, as Jobs stated while introducing the product, 4 times that of the 3g. I was curious and looked up the term and it basically means that the human eye can’t see any closer. I read a technical response to this (by someone who crunched the numbers) saying it is not true; but I think they where just splitting hairs at this point; the higher resolution should make for an amazing difference in picture quality. The display is also suppose to have the characteristic of being viewed from a wider degree of angles,,, i mean if your friend is looking from the side, it will be visible.
Good point about the video conferencing, that should be a very popular feature imo.
I have the iPhone 3GS right now but am definitely gong to get the 4 gen when its released. I won’t even wait to read a review, I just know it will be amazing!
The iPhone 4 was launched in London yesterday. I work in the center of town and saw a lot of different shops with big lines outside them – I assume these were people waiting to get the latest Apple gadget. It does look very very cool!
I am thinking about getting the new i phone but I am not 100% convinced that its going to live up to all the hype
iPhone 4G will be a must have for me. Need to get it!
I’m waiting for when Apple bring out Face Time for the iPad… obviously the next version of the iPad. I would have got the first iPad if it had a forward facing camera, mainly for Skype (and now Face Time, if they make it).
Huhuuu i finally have this one! And i just love this beast! iPhone 4 is by far the best smartphone right now! I can only recommend it…the 720p HD quality videos looks just PERFECT! Thanks, apple

I am the proud owner of an iphone 3GS and was looking forward to the iphone 4, however after comparing the new features with what I have now is not enough for me to upgrade at this time. My phone has been rock solid reliable, still looks new, used to the battery time, the operating systems updates keeps it running smooth and best of all…AT&T now runs on 4G with a noticeable difference in speed. I am sure the iphone 4 is great but I am going against the crowd and sticking with what I have for now.
Maybe as facetime becomes more popular, I will change my mind.
get ready for iphone 5!
I put my iPhone 3GS next to the iPhone 4 in the Apple Store, and the new “Retina Display” is stunning. I was comparing the compass app, and it was like night and day. It was hard to walk out of the store without having the new phone in my pocket to replace my outdated model.
I actually have an iPhone 4, and you’re right, from my experience this is the better version to have. I had a look at the previous version but it can’t compare to this one, I’m glad I waited for it!

Well, almost a year later I can tell that iPhone 4G delivered more then was expected. Except for the antenna mishap
I love my iphone4 – it shows websites really well and the apps are so much fun! I do so much with my phone now – and am able to do a lot of my tasks without ever having to switch on my laptop!
