iPhone 4 – Worth The Costs?

With a huge market share, it is obvious that Apple’s iPhone just keeps on getting more and more popular. This article will look at their latest model in the range released a couple of months ago, entitled the iPhone 4.

Let’s take a look at some of the improvements made on the iphone. First of all, the video quality has drastically increased. You can now actually record video in full HD quality, which is great if you enjoy recording video and then replaying it on your computer or maybe putting it on YouTube.

Second of all, the announcement of Apple’s FaceTime is another great addition. This technology allows you to have free video calling from your phone by using a WiFi connection. The only downside is that both users have to be using an iPhone 4 and both users have to be connected to WiFi at the time. If it supported 3G connection, this would probably be more useful.

Thirdly, the display has also increased. The resolution has now doubled, giving you a much crisper screen and you can definitely tell the difference by comparing the new iPhone 4 with an old iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS. Both text and images look better and it makes browsing the internet a lot better experience for the user.

However, the big question is, is the iPhone 4 really worth the huge costs? In the United Kingdom, to buy this phone without a contract, a 16GB model costs a staggering £499 with the 32GB model costing £599. This is much higher than most other competitors which makes it quite difficult to choose to buy this new phone, especially since the price of the iPhone 4 is higher than the old cost of the 3GS. I’m not quite sure why Apple did this but it was a very bad decision.

In my opinion, I wouldn’t pay this amount for a phone, simply because it is just a phone after all. Apple can add as many features as they want but I don’t believe people should have to pay £500 for a phone. On the other hand, the phone is still of a great quality. If I really wanted one, I could easily get a free iphone 4 with not much work.

  • New HTC WildFire Phone

    Hi,

Well today I have finally purchased a new phone. Previously using an iPhone 3G which I’ve had since a few weeks before the iPhone 3GS announcement last year, I have now purchased a nice HTC WildFire phone.

It’s currently on contract with T-Mobile UK for £20 a month with 400 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet (Which has a fair usage policy of 3GB of transfer per month) which isn’t bad at all in terms of pricing. Now all I’ve got to do is cancel my 30 day phone contract with O2, what fun.

The phone itself is actually very good. It looks quite nice and operates a lot differently to the iPhone. I was getting bored of the iPhone’s boring menus and the touch screen started to get quite annoying after a while too and I wasn’t keen on paying for the iPhone 4 with it’s huge costs and antenna problems. I did consider getting a free iPhone 4 but decided it was not worth the hassle.

This was the first time I had used a Google Android phone too, I was very impressed. There are a huge amount of different applications pre-installed and the general look of it was quite sleek. The Android Market isn’t bad either, but there isn’t as much variety in the applications as there is on the iPhone’s App Store.

Perhaps the biggest problem with the HTC WildFire phone is the internet browser on it. It works fine but the internet just doesn’t look good on it. When you browse a website, everything looks quite pixelated and isn’t good at all, although manageable. Other than that, the internet is quick and definitely usable.

I really love the Google Maps application on the HTC WildFire, too. It can get the current location and directions speedily and does a good job, and can even operate like a satellite navigation system as it provides directions as you’re driving along. Great job done by Google on this one.

In conclusion, the HTC WildFire is a great phone and I’m glad to be using it!
