With a huge market share, it is obvious that Apple’s iPhone just keeps on getting more and more popular. This article will look at their latest model in the range released a couple of months ago, entitled the iPhone 4.
Let’s take a look at some of the improvements made on the iphone. First of all, the video quality has drastically increased. You can now actually record video in full HD quality, which is great if you enjoy recording video and then replaying it on your computer or maybe putting it on YouTube.
Second of all, the announcement of Apple’s FaceTime is another great addition. This technology allows you to have free video calling from your phone by using a WiFi connection. The only downside is that both users have to be using an iPhone 4 and both users have to be connected to WiFi at the time. If it supported 3G connection, this would probably be more useful.
Thirdly, the display has also increased. The resolution has now doubled, giving you a much crisper screen and you can definitely tell the difference by comparing the new iPhone 4 with an old iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS. Both text and images look better and it makes browsing the internet a lot better experience for the user.
However, the big question is, is the iPhone 4 really worth the huge costs? In the United Kingdom, to buy this phone without a contract, a 16GB model costs a staggering £499 with the 32GB model costing £599. This is much higher than most other competitors which makes it quite difficult to choose to buy this new phone, especially since the price of the iPhone 4 is higher than the old cost of the 3GS. I’m not quite sure why Apple did this but it was a very bad decision.
In my opinion, I wouldn’t pay this amount for a phone, simply because it is just a phone after all. Apple can add as many features as they want but I don’t believe people should have to pay £500 for a phone. On the other hand, the phone is still of a great quality. If I really wanted one, I could easily get a free iphone 4 with not much work.

The iPhone 4 is quite possibly the best smartphone on the market, however one thing I see increasingly being advertised on TV or otherwise are Smartphones with ‘full web browsing capabilities’ or ‘full flash support’.
The HTC desire for example does has full flash web browsing capabilities… it might not be quite as good as the iPhone for but for around £300 makes it a much cheaper, and for some, better alternative.
I think you’re right that it’s an obscene amount to pay for a phone, but I’d not like to be without mine! There are a lot of other, cheaper alternatives out there, though, and some of the Andoid phones are pretty good.
I want to get either the iPhone4 or the Galaxy Tab as my new phone. I know the Tab isn’t yet released in the UK but I can wait if it is likely to be better than the iPhone4!
Which performs better? Is one better than the other at specific things? Which would be the better investment?
£500 is too much for a phone. The video chat capability is great, but being limited to iPhone4 to iPhone 4 sucks. I’m not buying it for one!
I’m using blackberry Bold, hope not for long.
iPhone 4 is great , I liked so mach.
I’m planning switch for Apple a soon iPhone 5 is gone bi available.
I will pay what ever is gone cost.
I agree with your assessment that the new features, impressive as they are; don’t justify the exorbitant price. Historically, apple has a tendency to put a premium price tag on their products, way above their competitors. However, it seems to be working for them in the smartphone market—(unlike their laptop or desktop market share). I would disagree with one thing though; it’s not just a phone. I would say it’s a miniature portable computer that is also acts as a phone, and some people use it in lieu of owning a desktop or laptop. From this perspective; I can see why some people justify the purchase.
